At his retirement in 2008, generous donors recognized Hank’s leadership by establishing a scholarship to support the post-secondary aspirations of Maine adults returning to school.

The Henry L.P. Schmelzer College Transitions Scholarship Fund will now support students associated with University College at Ellsworth for the next three academic years. Preference is given to non-traditional students from (in order of priority) Hancock, Washington, and other counties who have successfully completed College Transitions or other preparatory work and have matriculated into a University of Maine System or Eastern Maine Community College program. Financial need is the underlying eligibility criterion, but recipients must also be in good academic standing and have demonstrated a seriousness of purpose with respect to their education. A student must have completed at least one successful semester of at least part-time enrollment (two 3-credit courses). The minimum award is $2000, and may be renewable if the grant budget allows.

Danforth Gallery Jesse Potts’ Exhibition “theFLOOD” /about/danforth-gallery-jesse-potts-exhibition-theflood/ Tue, 25 Oct 2016 19:00:45 +0000 /about/?p=19922 Read More]]> UMA’s Danforth Gallery will host an exhibition of works by Jesse Potts from November 2 to December 9. Reception will be held at the gallery on Wednesday, November 16 at noon with a lecture at 1:00 p.m.
The gallery is located in Jewett Hall on the UMA campus, 46 University Drive, Augusta. Gallery hours are Monday – Thursday 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.; Friday 9:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

“The Flood” Jesse Potts – is a collection of new works that explore the intersection of place, memory and time utilizing sculptures, photographs, and installation. These works emerged from Potts meditation on the purpose and meaning of “home” and exploration of ways that meaning can shift based on one’s perception of whether “home” is permanent or temporary. Filled with metaphors and a mash-up of symbols this exhibition suggests both stability and movement.

Â鶹APP current academic theme of climate change presents a significant opportunity to explore and discuss the causes and effects of climate change, but also how individual and collective efforts can make a difference. Potts installation seeks to answer how the memory of an experience is related to place and time and how those memories may be mutated, overwritten or erased by time.
