DESCRIPTION:All are invited to a film screening of “Westermann: Memorial to the Idea of Man If He Was an Idea” in the Farber Forum on April 30 at 3:45 p.m.. \nWe will screen the documentary (which is 91 minutes long)\, then gather in the Drawing studio nearby for an open studio/reception. \nCurrent and prospective art students\, members of our military community\, lovers of documentary films\, and all art-curious folks are welcome to this screening. \nThis event is co-sponsored by the Cultural Events Council\, the Art Department\, and the Military & Veteran Services Department. \nAbout the film:\n“Westermann: Memorial to the Idea of Man If He Was an Idea” is a documentary film about the life and work of artist\, marine\, and acrobat H.C. (Cliff) Westermann. As a veteran of World War II and the Korean War\, Westermann’s dramatic personal history can be traced through beguiling\, surreal artworks he made to process the horrors he witnessed on the front lines. In so doing\, he became an inspiration for many young artists. The film reveals ways in which Westermann protected his empathic spirit – and sanity – by ‘sculpting’ his body\, artworks\, friendships\, his hand-hewn house\, and his art-filled letters to his dearest friends and family. The documentary explores themes of resiliency\, hope\, and humor with a script culled from over a thousand of Westermann’s letters and one audio-interview – voiced by four-time Academy-Award nominee Ed Harris.

Whether you want to learn how student government works\, share concerns\, ask questions\, or simply listen in\, your participation is welcome and encouraged. \nJoin via Zoom  \nMeeting Focus by Week: \n\n1st & 3rd Thursdays: Student Parliamentary Committee\nLearn about the parliamentary process\, current initiatives\, and how decisions are made that impact students.\n2nd & 4th Thursdays: DESC & Student Issues\nA space for distance education students—and all students—to raise concerns\, discuss challenges\, and share feedback.\n5th Thursday (when applicable): Open Town Hall\nAn open-format discussion for any topics students wish to bring forward.\n\nThese meetings are hosted by Parliamentary Committee Chair Miranda Hopkins and Distance Education Student Coordinator Arthur Belanger. The goal is to foster transparency\, inclusion\, and meaningful student engagement in a respectful and accessible environment. \nYou do not need prior experience with student government to attend.
