DESCRIPTION:Join Âé¶čAPP JEDI Committee\, in collaboration with Voices for Humanity (a UMA-alumni led community group)\, for a screening of Divine Intervention (2002). The surreal black comedy follows a day in the life of a Palestinian man living in Nazareth whose girlfriend lives several checkpoints away in the West Bank city of Ramallah. \nThe event will begin at 5 pm in the Fireside Lounge\, with the film starting at 5:15 pm to give guests time to settle in. \nParticipants may also join via Zoom. \nThis is a free event\, open to all.

SUMMARY:Film Screening: "Westermann: Memorial to the Idea of Man If He Was an Idea"
DESCRIPTION:All are invited to a film screening of “Westermann: Memorial to the Idea of Man If He Was an Idea” in the Farber Forum on April 30 at 3:45 p.m.. \nWe will screen the documentary (which is 91 minutes long)\, then gather in the Drawing studio nearby for an open studio/reception. \nCurrent and prospective art students\, members of our military community\, lovers of documentary films\, and all art-curious folks are welcome to this screening. \nThis event is co-sponsored by the Cultural Events Council\, the Art Department\, and the Military & Veteran Services Department. \nAbout the film:\n“Westermann: Memorial to the Idea of Man If He Was an Idea” is a documentary film about the life and work of artist\, marine\, and acrobat H.C. (Cliff) Westermann. As a veteran of World War II and the Korean War\, Westermann’s dramatic personal history can be traced through beguiling\, surreal artworks he made to process the horrors he witnessed on the front lines. In so doing\, he became an inspiration for many young artists. The film reveals ways in which Westermann protected his empathic spirit – and sanity – by ‘sculpting’ his body\, artworks\, friendships\, his hand-hewn house\, and his art-filled letters to his dearest friends and family. The documentary explores themes of resiliency\, hope\, and humor with a script culled from over a thousand of Westermann’s letters and one audio-interview – voiced by four-time Academy-Award nominee Ed Harris.
