These meetings are designed to create a direct, open line of communication between the student body, student government, and leadership. Whether you want to learn how student government works, share concerns, ask questions, or simply listen in, your participation is welcome and encouraged.

Ěý

Meeting Focus by Week:

  • 1st & 3rd Thursdays: Student Parliamentary Committee
Learn about the parliamentary process, current initiatives, and how decisions are made that impact students.
  • 2nd & 4th Thursdays: DESC & Student Issues
A space for distance education students—and all students—to raise concerns, discuss challenges, and share feedback.
  • 5th Thursday (when applicable): Open Town Hall
An open-format discussion for any topics students wish to bring forward.

These meetings are hosted by Parliamentary Committee Chair Miranda Hopkins and Distance Education Student Coordinator Arthur Belanger. The goal is to foster transparency, inclusion, and meaningful student engagement in a respectful and accessible environment.

You do not need prior experience with student government to attend. All voices matter, and all students are encouraged to participate at whatever level they feel comfortable.

We hope to see you there.

Spring 2026 Digital Accessibility Workshop: Reading Order and Structure – Why They Matter /event/spring-2026-digital-accessibility-workshops-8/ Tue, 21 Apr 2026 16:00:00 +0000 /event/spring-2026-digital-accessibility-workshops-8/ Read More]]> The Learning Experience Design team invites faculty and staff to a series of hands-on sessions focused on creating accessible digital content to be shared across the UMA community.

From designing accessible syllabi and document templates to interpreting PDF accessibility reports, each session provides practical strategies you can apply immediately. These are learning and working sessions, so bring your own materials and leave with concrete improvements.

Email uma-lxd@maine.edu for more information.

April 21: Reading Order and Structure – Why They Matter

When someone opens a PDF, they may not experience it visually. Screen readers and other assistive technologies rely on document structure, including headings, tags, and reading order, to interpret content. If that structure is unclear, the document can become confusing or difficult to navigate.

In this session, participants will learn how screen readers interpret PDF structure, how to identify issues related to reading order and tagging, and how to evaluate whether a document’s structure supports clear navigation. After a brief demonstration, participants will review and analyze PDFs using built-in accessibility tools. Please bring one or two PDFs so you can apply what you learn to your own documents.
