SUMMARY:"In Their Shoes" Presented by the Family Violence Project
DESCRIPTION:Join the Office of Student Life for an interactive storytelling event using In Their Shoes (a nationally recognized curriculum from the Washington State Coalition Against Domestic Violence)\, presented by Nancy Provost with the Family Violence Project. This program allows participants to step into the lives of teens navigating dating relationships\, making choices that shape the outcomes of the story. \nWe will present the story of Cara and Brian\, based on real events\, which includes themes of abusive behaviors such as stalking and gun violence. Out of respect for trauma sensitivity\, please be aware that the character of Cara does not survive. While most of the story focuses on everyday interactions with friends\, family\, and coworkers\, there are no depictions of sexual assault. \nDuring the activity\, participants will make choices that determine what happens next. A content disclaimer will be given beforehand\, and support resources will be available. The session will conclude with a facilitated group discussion\, giving students the opportunity to reflect\, ask questions\, and share feedback.

DESCRIPTION:Come Pau Hana in Bangor this fall on the First Friday at 5:00pm! \n\nOctober 3rd: Geaghan’s Pub & Craft Brewery\, 570 Main St\, Bangor\, ME 04401\n\nPau hana is Hawaiian for “stop working.” That’s right! You are invited to stop working. \n(Pau hana is pronounced POW HAH-nah\, more or less.) \nPau Hana is a monthly gathering of UMA Bangor employees and anyone else in the UMA community who happens to be near Bangor or is willing to make the trip. Together\, we will hang out and not work! \nCome for a few minutes to say hello. Come for the whole time. Order a drink\, a soda\, a snack\, a meal. It doesn’t matter. There are no rules. VENEZ TOUS!  \nThis year\, we are offering wonderful and interactive workshops on topics such as: African storytelling\, Franco-American culture in Augusta\, yoga\, cooking Jambalaya\, visiting Quebec\, songs\, games\, and more! \nThe deadline to sign up is September 23rd–don’t wait!

DESCRIPTION:The UMA Saco Center is thrilled to welcome Maine native and survivalist Cheeny Plante for an uplifting community talk. The event is free and open to the public. \nCheeny is well-known to many as a U.S. Air Force SERE (Survival\, Evasion\, Resistance\, and Escape) specialist\, where she trained military personnel to endure the toughest environments. She also brought her skills to television\, competing on Naked & Afraid: Last One Standing\, the intense spin-off of the hit reality survival series Naked & Afraid\, and ultimately earning the title of “last woman standing.” \nA Q&A session will follow her talk.
