DESCRIPTION:Join us for the Thorne Memorial Campus Clean Up Day on the Augusta and Bangor campuses. \nHelp us welcome spring by participating in our annual campus clean-up after a long Maine winter! Volunteers are invited to join us on either the Augusta or Bangor campus. Activities may include raking\, mulching\, picking up debris\, and other outdoor projects to help refresh our campus spaces. \nLunch will be provided to volunteers: Participants who sign up by the deadline will receive a Moose CafĆ© lunch voucher. We encourage you to use your voucher on the day of the event and enjoy lunch together as a community from 12 ā€“ 1 pm. DESCRIPTION:Please join Ā鶹APP Prison Education Partnership staff and students for lunch and a discussion on supporting justice-impacted learners through higher education starting at 11:30 am on Wednesday\, April 22\, in the Randall Student Centerā€™s Fireside Lounge or online via Zoom. \nGrounded in Ā鶹APP commitment to access and student success\, this conversation will explore how PEP creates pathways to opportunity for incarcerated and formerly incarcerated students. Attendees will hear about the programā€™s impact\, the challenges students navigate\, and the strategies that support their successā€”from community partnerships and mentorship networks to ongoing collaboration with the Maine Department of Corrections. \nThis event offers an opportunity to connect with students and staff\, ask questions\, and better understand the role education plays in supporting reentry\, strengthening Maineā€™s workforce\, and building more resilient communities. \nAll are welcome to attend and participate in the conversation. \nLunch will be provided. The surreal black comedy follows a day in the life of a Palestinian man living in Nazareth whose girlfriend lives several checkpoints away in the West Bank city of Ramallah. \nThe event will begin at 5 pm in the Fireside Lounge\, with the film starting at 5:15 pm to give guests time to settle in. \nParticipants may also join via Zoom. \nThis is a free event\, open to all.

SUMMARY:Film Screening: "Westermann: Memorial to the Idea of Man If He Was an Idea"
DESCRIPTION:All are invited to a film screening of ā€œWestermann: Memorial to the Idea of Man If He Was an Ideaā€ in the Farber Forum on April 30 at 3:45 p.m.. \nWe will screen the documentary (which is 91 minutes long)\, then gather in the Drawing studio nearby for an open studio/reception. \nCurrent and prospective art students\, members of our military community\, lovers of documentary films\, and all art-curious folks are welcome to this screening. \nThis event is co-sponsored by the Cultural Events Council\, the Art Department\, and the Military & Veteran Services Department. \nAbout the film:\nā€œWestermann: Memorial to the Idea of Man If He Was an Ideaā€ is a documentary film about the life and work of artist\, marine\, and acrobat H.C. (Cliff) Westermann. As a veteran of World War II and the Korean War\, Westermannā€™s dramatic personal history can be traced through beguiling\, surreal artworks he made to process the horrors he witnessed on the front lines. In so doing\, he became an inspiration for many young artists. The film reveals ways in which Westermann protected his empathic spirit ā€“ and sanity ā€“ by ā€˜sculptingā€™ his body\, artworks\, friendships\, his hand-hewn house\, and his art-filled letters to his dearest friends and family. The documentary explores themes of resiliency\, hope\, and humor with a script culled from over a thousand of Westermannā€™s letters and one audio-interview ā€“ voiced by four-time Academy-Award nominee Ed Harris.
