Employers eagerly awit the opening of UMA’s 4th annual Job and Resource Fair.

The Fireside Lounge at the Augusta campus was the place to be on March 24. UMA hosted its fourth annual Job & Resource Fair, bringing together students, alumni, and community members for a day of networking and opportunity.

Held in partnership with Maine CareerCenters, the event welcomed 67 employers from across the state. The room was filled with recruiters from 13 different sectors, ranging from healthcare and finance to human services and government.

While many attendees arrived with resumes in hand, the fair was about more than just filling out applications. It served as a practical bridge between our talented UMA community and organizations with a high demand for new hires. With major employers like MaineGeneral, Northern Light Health, and Camden National Bank in attendance, the event helped turn open roles into real-world career paths.

With thousands of vacancies currently open in Maine’s care settings and state government, the event offered an efficient way for UMA students, alumni, and community members to explore multiple opportunities on the same day.

“This fair is a direct response to our regional and state hiring needs,” said Haley Brown, UMA student services coordinator. “By bringing employers and job seekers together in one place, we help people find new careers while organizations meet critical staffing needs. When that happens, our communities and our economy grow stronger.”

Students and community members connect with employers during a job fair at the Âé¶ąAPP. This year’s event brings together 69 employers representing 13 industries, creating pathways from education to meaningful careers.

Job seekers, connect directly with employers as UMA hosts its fourth annual Job & Resource Fair on Tuesday, March 24, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Randall Student Center Fireside Lounge. Held in partnership with , the free public event will connect hundreds of job seekers with more than 60 major employers across Maine’s most critical industries.

Meet employers from multiple industries who are recruiting for current and future openings. Participating organizations represent a wide spectrum of the economy, including healthcare leaders like MaineGeneral and Northern Light Health, financial institutions such as Camden National and Kennebec Savings Bank, and various state and federal agencies including the Maine DHHS and the Social Security Administration.

The event is designed to support first-time job seekers, career changers and individuals seeking new or better opportunities. List of employers attending.

“Our goal is to turn interest into opportunity by putting people at every stage of their careers in direct conversation with hiring employers,” said UMA Student Services Coordinator Haley Brown. “This fair is a resource for our entire community; whether you are entering the workforce for the first time or looking for a change, you will leave here with the leads and connections needed to take your next step.”

Job Fair Tips:

  • Have a clear sense of the position you’re seeking and what you bring to the role. Prepare a 30- to 60-second elevator pitch to make the most of your time with employers.
  • Bring several copies of your rĂ©sumĂ© – more than you think you’ll need.
  • Research the companies you’re interested in before the fair, so you can incorporate what you’ve learned into conversations with recruiters.
  • Be open to talking with employers you may not have considered before. Many organizations have departments such as IT, finance and accounting that support their operations.

The job fair is free and open to the public.

Whether hoping to find their first job, a better job, or a new career direction, job seekers will find a wealth of exciting opportunities at this event. More than 20 hiring organizations, including several local employers from a variety of industry sectors will be eager to hire for immediate openings in a wide range of fields. Job Fair Tips

Have a good sense of the position you want, and what you can bring to the role. Having a 30-60 second elevator pitch can serve you well in this type of environment because of the limited time you may have with each employer.

Bring several copies of your resume (more than you think you might need) and dress for success.

Research the companies you’re interested in talking with before the fair. This way, you can embed what you’ve learned into the conversations you have with recruiters.

Be open to talking with employers that you might not have considered before. Just because an employer is known for a specific product or service, they also have departments that support their work, such as IT, finance/accounting, and more.

The Career Fair is also open to the public and anyone seeking employment services or career services are encouraged to attend, from 2-4pm that day.

Maine is facing a shortage of skilled employees in conjunction with an aging population. In addition, the number of high school graduates is continuing to decrease. Eastern Maine Community College, University of Maine at Augusta and Eastern Maine Development Corporation are committed to being leaders in developing strategies to increase the number of available high skilled graduates to address workforce issues in rural areas of Maine.

Eastern Maine Community College, University of Maine at Augusta and Eastern Maine Development Corporation are excited to provide an opportunity for area youth, ages 16-24, to attend a career readiness event as well as a career resource fair at the Katahdin Higher Education Center, in East Millinocket, with the theme of aspiring to post-secondary training and/or employment. Young adults will be provided the tools and opportunity to design and develop a resume, hear what employers are looking for when they hire, learn about tools for a successful interview and meet with potential employers in the region as well as learn more about opportunities for job training and higher education. On Thursday and Friday, April 11th & 12th representatives from Katahdin Higher Education Center and EMDC will travel to local high schools and conduct career resources including resume writing workshops, highlighting successes and learning successful interview techniques as well as hearing more about what employers are looking for when they hire.

The Katahdin Higher Education Center of EMCC and UMA is an off-campus center in the Katahdin Region where people can take courses, pursue degrees, and receive all the support they need to earn a degree close to home and on schedules that fit into their family and work lives. The Katahdin Region Economic Development Board (KRDB) in conjunction with (EMDC) is hiring a full-time position for an which will be based at the UMA East Millinocket Center. The funding for this position has been secured for five years with the opportunity to extend for two additional years.

Role Description

The Economic Development Director will serve in a leadership role to plan, promote, develop and implement a strategic plan for the Katahdin region that expands and retains business and industry to ensure the region’s economic vitality. The Director serves as the primary link between businesses, industry, community groups and agencies, developers and funders and works closely with entities involved in education, workforce development, tourism, transportation community development and state, federal and local development efforts to promote economic development projects that retain and/or creates new jobs in the Katahdin region. This individual will work as an employee of Eastern Maine Development Corporation, and will receive work assignments and direction from the Katahdin Region Development Board in conjunction with EMDC.
