Narrated by Meryl Streep\, the film explores Schindler’s groundbreaking ideas and lasting influence on modern architecture through rare archival material and insightful commentary. \nFeaturing interviews with renowned architects including Frank Gehry\, Steven Holl\, and Thom Mayne\, the film offers a compelling look at Schindler’s innovative approach to space\, form\, and living. \nView the trailer.  \nFollowing the screening\, filmmaker Valentina Galeva will be in attendance for a live Q&A conversation\, offering behind the scenes insights into the making of the film and Schindler’s enduring legacy. \nThis event is free and open to the public. DESCRIPTION:The UMA Student Research Conference is an opportunity for students\, faculty\, staff\, and community members to come together to share our work across disciplines and programs and to learn more about a variety of topics\, including this year’s academic theme\, Civil Rights.  \nThis conference will include student presentations of their work on a variety of subjects and in a variety of formats. SUMMARY:Film Screening: "Westermann: Memorial to the Idea of Man If He Was an Idea"
DESCRIPTION:All are invited to a film screening of “Westermann: Memorial to the Idea of Man If He Was an Idea” in the Farber Forum on April 30 at 3:45 p.m.. \nWe will screen the documentary (which is 91 minutes long)\, then gather in the Drawing studio nearby for an open studio/reception. \nCurrent and prospective art students\, members of our military community\, lovers of documentary films\, and all art-curious folks are welcome to this screening. \nThis event is co-sponsored by the Cultural Events Council\, the Art Department\, and the Military & Veteran Services Department. \nAbout the film:\n“Westermann: Memorial to the Idea of Man If He Was an Idea” is a documentary film about the life and work of artist\, marine\, and acrobat H.C. (Cliff) Westermann. As a veteran of World War II and the Korean War\, Westermann’s dramatic personal history can be traced through beguiling\, surreal artworks he made to process the horrors he witnessed on the front lines. In so doing\, he became an inspiration for many young artists. The film reveals ways in which Westermann protected his empathic spirit – and sanity – by ‘sculpting’ his body\, artworks\, friendships\, his hand-hewn house\, and his art-filled letters to his dearest friends and family. The documentary explores themes of resiliency\, hope\, and humor with a script culled from over a thousand of Westermann’s letters and one audio-interview – voiced by four-time Academy-Award nominee Ed Harris.
