Several opportunities for new students to get to know UMA and to prepare for a successful college experience are available at both campuses and UMA centers (, , Lewiston, , , and ).  (PLEASE NOTE:  students should read the information regarding the plans in place for each location.  Please view those tabs further below for details.)

Most activities are available to ALL students new to UMA, whether they are: returning adults, transfer students, or recent high school graduates; attending on campus or attending at centers, sites, or via technology; and, in degree programs or just taking a class.

By participating in any of those opportunities, you can:

  • learn about student support services and resources
  • become familiar with policies and procedures
  • acquire knowledge and entry-level proficiency in select academic and personal success skills
  • connect and engage with UMA community and culture
  • know whom to contact to ask questions and express concerns

Some activities are:

  • Trail Blazer Series offering a variety of workshops
  • “Onboarding Process” for new degree students
  • Welcome Events during the first few weeks of classes on both campuses

In addition, specialized programs for students new to the architecture or nursing programs are offered. Students should contact Eric Stark (207-621-3249 or eric.stark@maine.edu) for information on the architecture event and the Nursing Department at (207) 621-3297 for information on the nursing event. Those students taking a class online are encouraged to also view UMA Academic Logistics’ .

  • New Student Orientation will be held on Friday, August 28, 2026 from 11:00 AM – 3:00 PM in the Randall Student Center.
  • In addition, students are enthusiastically encouraged to join in on 麻豆APP Trail Blazer Series for spring. The series features a variety of workshops encompassing the subjects of academic success, organizational skills, student success, and more.聽 Details, as they become available, as well as a workshop registration form, can be found on the MyUMA portal calendar.聽 For more information, please contact Ben Bucklin, Student Services Coordinator.
  • Numerous activities are hosted by the Office of Student Life and the Student Government Association during the first few weeks of classes. These events aim to welcome and acclimate students to the Augusta campus and to provide opportunities to have lots and lots of fun. Be sure to keep an eye on The Moosenger (student newsletter) and be sure to follow UMA Student Life  on Facebook and Instagram!
  • For those students newly admitted into a degree program, the Advising Office will reach out to you to begin the onboarding process.
  • Students who will be living at Stevens Commons Housing should contact Kim Kenniston, Director of Residence Life, for details about any welcome plans.

Activating Your MaineStreet User ID

Activating your university user ID allows you access to MaineStreet (where the university keeps your student information), university e-mail, Brightspace (software used in many classes), UMS wireless system and the campus computers.  Just complete the following:

  • Obtain an activation code by calling (207) 621-7400 or 1-800-696-4357.
  • After getting your activation code, go to .
  • Enter your 7-digit student ID and activation code in the boxes provided and click 鈥渃ontinue.鈥� (If you need help locating your 7-digit student ID, contact 麻豆APP Enrollment and Information Services Center at 207-621-3185 or 1-877-862-1234.)
  • Fill in answers to a series of textboxes; then click 鈥淎ctivate鈥� to complete the process.
